My interest in midwifery began when I was twelve years old. As a teen I enjoyed spending time with pregnant moms, quizzing midwives about their experiences, and serving as a doula for friends. After attending my first birth in 2002, I knew that midwifery was what God was calling me to do.

I started my academics in the year 2000 with the Telos Institute International, the Medical Training Institute Midwifery Program and the Association of Texas Midwives Midwifery Training Program. I graduated from midwifery school and an internship at Family Birth Services in 2005. This birth center is currently owned and directed by Helen Jolly-Nelson, who was a midwife for almost 30 years.

My internship at Family Birth Services gave me many different types of experiences as I worked with a variety of clientele and became knowledgeable in dealing with many types of complications. I was invited to join Family Birth Services as a staff midwife in the spring of 2006 to work as a Certified Professional Midwife.

I was born in the Caribbean island of Curacao. Since it is a Dutch island, I am fluent in four languages: English, Spanish, Dutch and Papiamento. This enables me to serve a diverse clientele, and to assist those who might find it difficult to receive good, personal care elsewhere. Some of my areas of specialty include twin deliveries, and working with those desiring a Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC). Seeing the joy on the face of someone who has finally been able to deliver her baby vaginally is a priceless reward!

I am dedicated and adaptable, able to give my clients special attention, massage, and encouragement. Many appreciate my compassion, personal care, soothing touch during labor, peaceful presence, and my calm, gentle spirit. I have a true heart for midwifery and enjoy serving and reaching out to my clients. I am also a preceptor at Family Birth Services where I thoroughly enjoy being part of the student midwives' clinical training.

Besides enjoying being a midwife, I also love spending time with my family and friends. I am the oldest of three and grew up in a Christian family. I also like cooking Caribbean, Mexican & American food, scrapbooking, and listening to good music.

I also have the privilege to counsel at a Crisis Pregnancy Center one morning per week where I get to minister to several young women. It's a very needed ministry and I feel blessed to be able to listen, share, and reach out to these girls that need the Lord as well as some tender loving care.

I feel very blessed to be a midwife! I thoroughly enjoying developing long, lasting relationships with my clients. It is very rewarding to walk with a couple through their journeys - as we go through their pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum together. I enjoy keeping in touch with my clients and having the privilege of delivering 2nd, 3rd, and more babies for my clients. Many clients say that I become part of their families!
